Funkbrella loves the holidays.  In fact, when it comes to the holidays, we have so much love in us that we want to share it with the world…well, San Francisco Union Square, at least.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance company dedicated to serving youth and young adults in the performing arts.  Our mission is to provide high quality dance training, present innovative artistic works, and cultivate a diverse community of leaders. Despite the struggling economy, Funkbrella was able to meet increasing demands for hip-hop dance programming.

2008-09 Accomplishments:

• We successfully increased our company membership from 2 companies with 50 dancers, to 5 companies with 140 dancers.
• We created two new dance programs: Funksters Training Class (youth) & Performance Workshop (adults).
• We put on the first ever Sockhop Dance Showcase.
• We established 4 after-school dance programs for under-resourced schools in San Francisco Hunter’s Point, East Oakland, and Daly City.

In order to continue providing support for our local dancers, our goal is to raise money to go towards:

1. Program support for dancers: Help us provide studio space for rehearsals, costumes for shows, and transportation to and from our performances.
2. Scholarships for dancers with financial need.

Past donations have helped us:

• Provide uniforms for 125 dancers to represent their team
• Grant 15 dance scholarships for dancers with financial need
• Organize The Sockhop dance showcase every summer!

As a donor, you benefit by:

• Supporting the performing arts in the Bay Area
• Helping a nonprofit that provides a support system for 200+ dancers
• Being recognized on our website (if you so choose!)
