How do I join De La Femme?
De La Femme holds auditions once a year in October.  If you missed auditions and still want to join, the best way to do it is to start attending De La Femme Company Class on Thursdays.  Ask for Bibi at the front desk and have her observe you at class.  If you attend class regularly and excel in class, you have a great chance of being asked to attend rehearsals!

How do I join The Odds?

2. BOOKING

How do I book one of the Funkbrella companies?
We’re always looking for places to perform!  First, check out the 5 Funkbrella performance companies and decide which company best fits the needs of your event.  Then go to www.funkbrella.com/booking and fill out the booking form.  Include as much information as possible.  Within a week, a Funkbrella staff member will respond to you about your request.  If you don’t get a response within a week, email info@funkbrella.com.

How early in advance should I contact you to book a performance?
You should complete a booking request at least 2 months ahead of time to give you the best chances of getting a performance.  Funkbrella teams try to book at least one performance per month.  It also helps if your event is directly related to our nonprofit mission!

3. CLASSES
Are classes open to the public?
Yes, all classes are open to the public and are available for a drop-in basis.

How much are classes?
The normal rate for class is $12/class.  For Funkanometry SF Company Class, there is a student discount of $10, but make sure you bring a valid student ID or you won’t be awarded this discount!  Funksters Training Class is a monthly program, but you can pay $15 to take one class.

Is every class a different routine, or do I have to catch up if I miss a class?
Every class teaches you new fundamentals and new set of choreography, so don’t worry if you miss a few classes.  The only program where you should attend regularly are the Performance Workshop and Summer Intensives because you are preparing a routine to be performed.  The other classes are just for fun and training.

Is there an age limit for class?
Dance is for all ages, so we don’t discriminate.  Therefore, there is no age minimum, or age maximum.  Our class age range is normally between 12-35, but there are often very young dancers and more mature dancers that are up to 60 years old!  Our classes are fun and welcoming, and everyone is guaranteed a good workout.

4. Performance Workshop
What is Performance Workshop and who is teaching?
Click here for details about the next Performance Workshop.

Who can join Performance Workshop?
Anyone 18+

Do you need experience?
No experience is needed! We have dancers come in from a wide variety of dance backgrounds and levels of experience. The program is designed for adult dancers that have had Beginner to Intermediate level of hip-hop training and want to improve their performance skills.  To get a taste of the level for Performance Workshop, we recommend taking our Beginning Hip-hop dance class, Sundays at 5:30pm at City Dance.

How long is the workshop and what does it consist of?
Performance Workshop is a 10-week program that consists of a rehearsal once a week on Mondays from 7-10pm.  During the last month of the workshop, we may add Friday night rehearsals from 7:30-10:30pm so that you have extra time to practice for the upcoming show.  Each rehearsal will mirror a normal rehearsal for Funkanometry SF.

The program ends with a live performance in front of family and friends.

How much does it cost?
$250 for the whole session.

How can I pay? Can I pay in installments?
When you register, we require a $100 deposit that will go towards the $250 registration fee.

Payment Options:
Option A: Pay the whole $250 upfront when you register
Option B: Pay the $100 nonrefundable deposit upon registration and then installment payments of $75 for the following two months. (ex: Sept: $100, Oct: $75, Nov $75).  Payments must be made on the first rehearsal of each month.

Payment Methods:
CASH: Put your cash in an envelope. On the front, make sure to write ‘PW6, Your Name, and the amount included.’

CHECK: Make checks payable to ‘Funkanometry SF’.  In the memo section of the check, write ‘PW6 – Your Name’.

What is your refund policy?
The $100 deposit is nonrefundable.  If you pay the $250 up front and later decide not to continue, you can be refunded the rest of your payment if you communicate with us before the 1st rehearsal of that month.  (i.e. If you tell us before the 1st rehearsal of the month, we can refund that month’s installment of $75.  If you tell us after the 1st rehearsal of the month, we can only refund your next month’s payment.)

*Please mail in your deposit along with your registration form.

Can I register on the first day that Performance Workshop begins?
Spots are reserved on a first come first served basis.  We recommend that you register in advance to reserve yourself a spot because the workshop does fill up fast. If there is still space by the first day of the workshop, we can accommodate you, but we can’t make any guarantees.

I am a dancer from out of town. Will you be providing any kind of housing accommodations?
Unfortunately, we do not provide any housing accommodations. We recommend that you look into housing options in advance. Craigslist.com is a great source for summer/part-time housing options.

5. SUMMER INTENSIVE
Who will be teaching the Summer Intensive?
In order to better each dancer’s versatility and challenge them to learn different styles of choreography, Funkanometry SF brings in some of the best choreographers from the Bay Area dance scene to train the Funksters dancers.  Choreographers include members of Funkanometry SF, as well as other renowned dancers in the Bay Area, all of whom have had extensive training and/or teaching experience with youth.

What is the age group and dance level for Funksters?
Funksters is for dancers ages 18 and under, ranging from minimal to extensive Hip-hop and/or other dance training.  For dancers who have little to no dance experience, we recommend taking Funksters Beginning Hip-hop.  For more experienced dancers who have taken a few hip-hop dance classes and/or have been a part of a school dance team, we recommend taking Funksters Intermediate Hip-hop so that you will be further challenged.

I am 18 years old.  Should I sign up for Funksters Intermediate or Performance Workshop?
This is a personal decision that is up to each dancer to make.  Performance Workshop has more adult age dancers, whereas Funksters Intensive has more high school age youth.  Whichever group of people you want to spend the most time with and build friendships with will determine which program you sign up for.

What is the structure of Funksters Beginning Hip-hop?
Each 3-hour rehearsal begins with warm up and stretch and goes into technique-training exercises, such as isolation, groove, popping, and gliding.  Building on techniques learned in the first couple weeks, the second half of the session will focus on learning choreography that incorporates all the skills learned so the students can be fully immersed in the style of dancing.  At the end of the session, dancers will perform all of the choreography they have learned in a live showcase for their family and friends.

What is the structure of Funksters Intermediate Hip-hop?
The structure will be similar to Funksters Beginning, but the focus is shifted to performance and picking up various styles of hip-hop dance.  The goal of this session is to learn choreography to be made into a full routine that the dancers will perform at a live show.  Dancers will experience all the steps of making a routine including learning staging & formations, performance skills, show preparation (makeup, hair, costumes), and finally, being on stage and performing live.

I am interested but I want to make sure that this is a good fit for my dancer…
We firmly believe that you’ll never know how good the “fit” of the camp will be until you try it.  We are confident that for aspiring young dancers who want to learn hip-hop dance, you will find Funksters both challenging and fun.  If you sign up and later change your mind, we can reimburse the difference.  Or if you sign up for Funksters Beginning and realize it’s not challenging enough, we can transfer your dancer to Funksters Intermediate, pending there is enough space.

Does registration close at a certain date?
Yes, registration closes a week before the Intensive program begins.

What if my dancer is not able to finish the summer program?  Do you give refunds?
We understand that sometimes situations arise that will not allow your dancer to finish the summer.  Some dancers may even start the program and realize that it is not a good fit for them.  We are happy to issue refunds for your dancer if you are not able to finish the summer, but we can only do so within the first 2 weeks of the program.  You will also be charged a $35 refund processing fee.

What if we start the Beginning Intensive and realize that it is too easy, or vice versa? Can we switch between sessions?
Yes, if you start the first class and realize that the class is too easy or too hard, you can request to switch sessions, but it is not guaranteed.  Switching between sessions can only be done if there is space in the session that you are requesting.  We suggest talking to an instructor before hand to decide the best session for your dancer.
