This class is taught by the Executive Artistic Director of Funkanometry SF, Emerson Aquino. Students will focus on beginning techniques in groove, isolation, and basic hip-hop. Each class begins with a fun warm-up and stretch, and ends after learning approximately 4 eight counts of choreography. Emerson focuses on musicality and basic body movement while implementing a fun cardio-based workout at the same time.
Class is meant for beginners with little to no experience, but is also helpful for advanced dancers who are interested in improving their technique and execution. Music selection varies with each class but Emerson is best known for his up-tempo R&B and J-pop.

FUNKSTERS TRAINING CLASS
Taking class is ESSENTIAL to a dancer’s growth, and we want to offer training through the Funkbrella to any young aspiring dancer willing to push themselves and learn. So even though you may not be dancing with the Funksters performance company (yet!), we want to help you get there, or meet any other dance goals you might have!
The Funksters Training Class will incorporate many fun, effective methods and exercises to better young dancers including but not limited to: stretching, drilling movement, learning different styles and pieces of choreography, learning and exercising retention, pick-up, performance… and much, much more. Also, members of the class will have the opportunity of being evaluated over time for possibly being invited to join the Funksters performance company!
Who it Serves? Young dancers (ages 18 and under) who want to train in hip-hop dance, and potentially join the Funksters Performance Team.
Who will teach? Krystle Pascua, Artistic Director of Funksters, will be overseeing each class. However, from time to time we will bring in different instructors from within the Funkbrella Dance Academy or other guest choreographers so that the dancers will be able to train in many styles of choreography.

**2010 Workshop Schedule**
PW Season 8 (summer): June 21 – Aug 22nd, 2010
PW Season 9 (winter): Oct 4 – Dec 6th, 2010
————————————————–
Summer Intensive (SI) is a 6-8-week program open to dancers ages 18 and under. The purpose of Summer Intensive is to bring together young dancers from all over the Bay Area to meet, bond, and share in their love of dance. Dancers learn basic hip-hop fundamentals, are challenged to increase their confidence and stage presence, and learn how to choreograph their own pieces. At the end of the summer, dancers perform their routines in front of family and friends at the annual Funkbrella Summer Sessions Showcase in SF!
For SI 2010, we will hold one 6-week intensive for 3 different skill levels: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.
SESSION A: Beginning Hip-hop Intensive
Saturdays 12-3pm & Sundays 2-5pm
Ages 6-18 | $200 for a 6-wk session
Designed for young dancers with little to no experience with hip-hop dance. Instructors focus on technique and challenge students’ ability to pick up choreography.
SESSION B: Intermediate Hip-hop Intensive
Saturdays 3-6pm & Sundays 5-8pm
Ages 13-18 | $200 for a 6-wk session
Designed for young dancers who have had some experience in hip-hop dance and want a more challenging experience. Instructors focus on performance skills, stage presence, and building confidence. Instructors will also lead dancers through various exercises to teach them how to choreograph their own pieces, and do their own staging and blocking, to possibly be used at the end of the session show!
SESSION C: Funksters Leadership Program (Advanced)
**This session is only open to current Funksters company dancers that are graduating High School Seniors.
Sundays 4-6p & additional times during Session A & B, depending on which session you get assigned to work with.
$125 for a 6-wk session
Dancers will work one-on-one with a Funks SF dancer to build leadership skills and get teaching experience. Dancers will also assist with the other two sessions by leading dance exercises and teaching a piece of their own to the other SI dancers. They will put together an original routine to be performed at the Summer Sessions Showcase as a “goodbye” tribute to Funksters.
