This class is taught by the Executive Artistic Director of Funkanometry SF, Emerson Aquino.  Students will focus on beginning techniques in groove, isolation, and basic hip-hop.  Each class begins with a fun warm-up and stretch, and ends after learning approximately 4 eight counts of choreography.  Emerson focuses on musicality and basic body movement while implementing a fun cardio-based workout at the same time.

Class is meant for beginners with little to no experience, but is also helpful for advanced dancers who are interested in improving their technique and execution. Music selection varies with each class but Emerson is best known for his up-tempo R&B and J-pop.

Taking class is ESSENTIAL to a dancer’s growth, and we want to offer training through the Funkbrella to any young aspiring dancer willing to push themselves and learn.  So even though you may not be dancing with the Funksters performance company (yet!), we want to help you get there, or meet any other dance goals you might have!

The Funksters Training Class will incorporate many fun, effective methods and exercises to better young dancers including but not limited to: stretching, drilling movement, learning different styles and pieces of choreography, learning and exercising retention, pick-up, performance… and much, much more. Also, members of the class will have the opportunity of being evaluated over time for possibly being invited to join the Funksters performance company!

Who it Serves? Young dancers (ages 18 and under) who want to train in hip-hop dance, and potentially join the Funksters Performance Team.

Who will teach? Krystle Pascua, Artistic Director of Funksters, will be overseeing each class.  However, from time to time we will bring in different instructors from within the Funkbrella Dance Academy or other guest choreographers so that the dancers will be able to train in many styles of choreography.

The Performance Workshop (PW) seasonal program gives dancers the opportunity to experience firsthand the process of creating a Funkanometry SF medley.  This 10-week session is led by two Funkanometry SF choreographers and concludes with a live performance in front of family and friends.  Dancers will be challenged to retain choreography, learn staging, pick up a variety of dance styles, build character, and improve stage performance skills.  This is a great way to train with Funkanometry SF choreographers and also to meet other talented dancers from around the Bay Area.

*FACT: Many dancers who begin their training with Performance Workshop go on to join the Funkbrella performance companies!

Who it Serves: Adult dancers (ages 18+) that are at a Beginner to Intermediate level of hip-hop dance and that are interested in improving their performance skills.
